Clinical Study on Heart Failure

Abstract
|
|
|
The clinical analysis was done on the underlying causes, precipitating factors, symptoms and signs of heart failure under the hospitalization during a period of recent 3 years from 1972 to 1974.
The results were summarized as follows:
1. Of 111. cases of heart failure, hypertension was presented in 27. 9%, ischemic heart diseases in 20.7%, postpartum heart disease in 18.0%, rheumatic heart diseases in 14.4%, pericardial diseases and cor pulmonale in 6.3% each, hyperthyroidism and myocarditis in 1.8% each, bacterial endocarditis in 1%, and unknown in 1.8%.
2. The precipitating factors of heart failure were confirmed in 79% and the inadequate management, pregnancy and infection were the major causes.
3. The electrocardiogram was abnormal in 106 cases and left ventricular hypertrophy, atrial fibrillation and myocardial ischemia were the most frequent findings.
4. Two third of the cases were developed during cold seasons.
